Watch the news lately? Across the U.S. children as young as 2yrs old are being served mixed drinks at restaurants?!
If I order a margarita, I'm always asked, "On the rocks or frozen?" "With or without salt?"
Is the 2 yr old replying, "On the Wocks pleathe, uh make that no thalt and don't fawget my thippy cup!"

If you are referring to the Applebees Incident...I would think it's the old Employee was drinking on the clock trick....putting an alcoholic beverage in a coke or juice cup while you are working to fool the manager-boss-owner has been done from Day 1 of Restaurants Opening and will be done till the end of time....unfortunately in this case said Employees Cup somehow ended up getting sent over to The Table under the assumption it was Apple Juice cause it was in a Juice Cup...on a brighter note the Kid ended up getting the number of a couple Cougars there

The kid at Applebee's was served a premixed Margarita mix by accident, but that's a tough one to swallow (no pun inteded).

The latest was served Sangria by accident when the kid ordered grape juice of some sort. This is a more understandable error if the sangria was in an unmarked container. Easy mistake for a newbie as a lot of places make their own sangria.

Either that, or there are just a lot of alcoholic toddlers turning up!

I'm betting this turns out to be like the poor old lady at McDonald's who was burned by hot coffee. We'll find out after years of costly litigation that in fact the waiter/waitress was in cahoots with the customer and did it on purpose to generate a lawsuit.

Parents of tipsy toddler sue Applebee's - Business - U.S. business - msnbc.com

Ha ha - SWGB I hadn't thought of that!

Is it just me - and I don't even drink - or is this really worthy of a lawsuit or just a chance for servers to have a heads up and for the parents of this toddler to have a funny story to tell the kid when he grows up. I remember my folks telling the story of how I once drunk the dregs of a screwdriver when I was so short I could walk under the table! I found it funny, they learned a lesson but it wasn't a case of "emotional distress" for my parents and I wasn't damaged. In this case the child was released by the EMT's and there are discrepancies in the story as to how drunk the child was - now it is said he was damaged for days. IDK, parents do far worse with their OTC meds many times. I think we can't say a mistake was made and move on anymore - what's with our need to constantly sue and what's with this constant need to feel we are entitled for things to go our way and only our way. It was an old fashioned (no pun intended) mistake!

There is a big difference between a kid getting into something in their own home and being served it in a restaurant.

Today it's liquor, tomorrow it's something the kid is deathly allergic to.

I don't think lawsuits are the answer (and I think all of these incidents would have been avoided if the kid was drinking milk or water), but it's dumb carelessness w/ potentially horrible results.

I agree there's a difference you are right - but I don't see it being so emotionally distressing on the parents that they have to sue over it. What I would want, as a parent (I wouldn't be too thrilled if mine got a coke by accident lol let alone booze) is to see new rules for serving alcohol. Maybe ALL alcohol has to come from the bar and the soft drinks and juices come from the kitchen or something like that. And maybe, as with other chance of error - we will have to unfortunately take a look at what is brought to our kids. It was dumb and careless as you said - and maybe the only way change is made is through lawsuits sometimes, but emotional distress? Anyway, my point I guess was that I just didn't see this worthy of a lawsuit. Maybe it is just me. :dunno:

It's not just you - I don't think it's lawsuit worthy (lax parental oversight would overwhelm our courts IMO), but on the flip side, am not sure how else to compell these multi-state chain restaurants to take notice and shape up.

Obviously it's a huge liquor license violation and illegal as hell.

My guess is that (as usual) we already have plenty of rules, laws, and regulations to prevent this happening, but they are not being enforced or followed.

My big question is - where are the parents when these kids are being served these things? Can they not smell the liquor because their glasses are already full of it? Grandma Scooterbug would put these parents to shame monitoring food intake and drinks and she's legally blind.

I'm no big fan of Applebee's, unless I'm tipsy and it's after 9pm in Sowal, but they've served millions of customers over the years and this is the first reported incident of serving alcohol to a toddler. I don't think they need a multi-million dollar whop over the head to get that it shouldn't happen again.

I still stand my assertion that this is a setup for a quick payday. Notice how quickly that lawsuit got filed?
