A question for those that are not native: How did you get to SoWal?

Did you vacation there regularly and then decide to move there? Did you retire there? What's your story?

Visited here on our honeymoon 14 yrs ago during a rainy yucky weather weekend. Thought the place was amazingly beautiful so we moved here 5 months later & never looked back.

I first saw the pristine white sand beaches of the Emerald Coast in 1950 as a Naval Aviation Cadet. It was my first liberty and we went to Pensacola beach. It didn't take me long to decide if I could ever afford to live here, I would do so. Betty and I started looking in 1991 and on our last day of searching, found the condo we now live in. We wouldn't trade it for the world.

I moved to FWB about 8 years ago from NY and slowly drifted east until I found this paradise. I have been here for 3 years now and my love affair with the area continues to grow. There is truly something special about the forests and beaches here and its a wonderful place to be alive and raise kids! :)

We visited here in the summer of 2003, and by Halloween we had moved here permanently from Texas. We visited because we had a relative here. We stayed because he sold us a lot dirt cheap. :D

Reason i moved, here!

I moved her Dec., '04, to be near my 6month old, grandson. I moved away latter '05 and my heart was ALWAYS sad, being away! I moved back late last summer permanently and have LOVED IT! I just pray that things turn around with this oil spill, cause I don't want to move, again!:sosad:

You wanted non-native opinions only, right?

Well...my great-great grandfather moved here with his two oldest sons in 1888 or so...liked it so much they stayed. I'm very glad they did!

We'd never been down here before the perfesser got a job interview in the area in 1998. I tagged along, and this place seemed like the promised land compared to Tennessee. Thankfully, he got the job and the rest is history.
