June's Dunes (I think I have the name right) in Destin. Was a great place to eat a huge reasonably priced breakfast while enjoying the beautiful beach and gulf!

I was talking to one of June's sons that worked there at the Boathouse last November and he said that they were working a deal to do breakfast at AJ's - has that happened? It's not quite the same but good breakfast food on the harbor wouldn't be too bad.

The Boathouse... now that's an interesting place. Haven't been there in a couple years. I guess it is still standing. Is Tom still playing there?

I had no idea June's sons were considering breakfast at AJ's. Can anyone on the board confirm? If so, I'll have to stop by for breakfast on my next visit in Oct.

The boathouse is still standing and Tom is still playing. He took off for a month or so last winter to head to Texas for awhile - but was back playing on Wed through Saturday when we were down in May.

When June's Dunes closed - her family took over the serving of the food at the Boathouse (and built the new kitchen area off the back of the Boathouse) When we were there last Thanksgiving her son had a falling out with the Boathouse and that was when he told me they were working a deal with AJ's. I hate to admit it but when I was there in May I was drinking and partying and didn't even notice who if anyone was in the kitchen. We had a group of 16 meet up there and I don't think any of us ate there.

Spotting the Seaside water tower after driving 12 hours from Dallas. I always hold my breath after storms that the pine trees (I call them the pencil trees) on Western Lake are still standing. Last New Years, we purchased a gorgeous Gordie Hines painting of Western Lake and those trees! Problem is...we hung it in our place down there?! May have to change that and bring it back to Dallas! Thanks for sharing your memories.

Those trees are a favorite of many many people. I can't count the number of requests he gets to paint those trees...happy you love yours!

What do I miss???.......

being able to recognize every car on 30A and always getting a wave back.

dancing barefoot at Shades on Thursday nights to the music of Jim Cooper.

hearing the front door slam at the gallery and seeing Beach Mamma's smile.

Lisa....Gordie HINDS!!!! How dare me! That's what happens when you get up at 4:00 am and try to post. My apologies to the artist and his wonderful wife! That painting is my favorite addition to our place. Problem is I haven't seen it since January. We'll be seeing you in August to solve that...I'm getting another GORDIE for a wall in Dallas!

You reminded me of another miss...I used to call Susan B at Pizitz (before the remodel) and ask her to go to the back just so I could hear the screen door slam! Ahhhh, memories!
