Only just. What a big production the prom is! Weddings will be easier, I think. At least I won't have to stay up and chaperone until 5 am like I did yesterday. This was our first experience with a girl prom. Last year our son Alex went to the prom and we went to his girlfriend's house for drinks and pictures and it was all very civilized. No such luck with his sister. We had kids and parents up the wazoo and today I hardly know what hit me. Was it funn? Heck yes.
This is what happens when you have a daughter going to her first prom. First, she has to invite at least half a dozen of her girlfriends to come over in the afternoon and primp and preen and overrun every bathroom in the house with their curling irons and make-up and jewelry and god only knows what else, except that you'll picking it up and cleaning it up for days after.
Then the boys arrive in their tuxes and tails and the noise level elevates to a high pitch that you try to tune out as you finish setting the table with all the hors d'oeuvres faithfully supplied by your SoWal friends (great recipes everyone; lots of nice compliments about the food!).
Finally, the doorbell starts ringing and proud parents start arriving and the cameras start clicking and the glasses starting clinking and all of a sudden it's funn and exciting and you thank heaven for little girls.
Lights! Camera! Action! You take more pictures in one hour than you have in the last year and then you shoo them all out the door as you tell them to have a wonderful time at their first prom.
Ah...the calm before the storm as you enjoy a few minutes in relative peace and quiet, until the neighbors start coming over because they know you're well-stocked with wine and beer and fancy party food. It's another party until midnight and a bit rolls around and the kids come back, and you know you're in for a long night....a very long night in our case!!
It was 5:00 am before the last one finally passed out with exhaustion. We had several boys sleep over (city curfew being 1 am and several parents not wanting their sons out driving past that hour yet not wanting to crawl out of bed themselves in the wee hours to pick them up...can't say I blame them). Mama Mermaid made hourly checks at 2, 3, 4, and 5 am just to make sure they were all sober and chaste. They were. ;-) I can't say they weren't rowdy, though. I don't know where kids get all that energy but if I could bottle it and sell it, I'd be one rich and happy Mama. They were all awake to face the day by 9:00 am, demanding Belgian waffles for breakfast. I'm such a softie--you know what I was doing at 9:00 am--doling out plates in Mermaid's kitchen. I figured what the heck. It's not like I hadn't lost a night's sleep anyway. The kids all looked so happy and adorable that it was hard to resist their Oliver Twist pleas for more.
Now excuse me please while I lay my head down to sleep. Maybe for a few days. I need it and I deserve it!

Thanks for sharing the pics Memy! She sure favors her beautiful Mom. Everything, (including the prom goers) looked divine. :clap_1:
