Celebrate Independence Day in Seaside by participating in the annual South Walton Community Parade. This year's parade is scheduled for Friday, July 4 at 8 a.m. Residents and visitors share the glory as they march 1.5 miles down County Road 30-A from Seagrove decked in patriotic costumes on festive holiday floats vying for the crowd's favor. Upon arrival in Seaside, an elite panel of judges will select a winning parade entry.

Parade participants should meet in Seagrove along 30-A at Garrett Realty at 7:30 a.m. with decorated entries. The parade begins at 8 a.m. Please note the stretch of 30-A between Seagrove and Seaside will be closed for the parade. Registration for parade participation is required.

Call 850-231-5424 for registration information. Don't forget your beloved furry friends. The crowd always loves patriotic pooches dressed in their finest holiday costumes. "There is nothing like being the center of attention with hundreds of people smiling and waving," said Kristin Banker, Director of the Seaside Merchants Association. "Families will spend hours adorning bikes, golf carts, or cars with all kinds of decorations. Parents magically turn into kids themselves, and everyone celebrates in grand style," she added.

Prizes will be awarded to the best parade entry . After performances are judged and winners announced, enjoy music in the amphitheater until 11 a.m. along with face painting for the kids.

In the evening, the outdoor amphitheater stage lights up as David Seering takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. for an evening concert as the sky lights up with fireworks. Families set out their favorite beach chairs and blankets, kids boogie to the music, and adults toast the perfect day.

The parade, activities and weekend performances are made possible by the Arts and Entertainment Fee collected by The Merchants of Seaside. All events are weather permitting, free and open to the public. For more information, please call 850-231-5424.

There will be voter registration opportunities available during the day. PJ's coffee is hosting registration location, and there will be individuals in Seaside walking around with registration forms. If you're not currently registered, July 4th is a great day to do so.
