Today marks the fourth year of the Iraq war...To date there have been 4,000 soldiers killed; up to 9,000 soldiers with catastrophic injuries; and the war, thus far, has lasted longer than WWII. Americans have an unlimited capacity for denial as long as it is someone else doing the hurting...Party on....:sosad:

And since we as Americans do not have to make any REAL sacrifices like our elders did during WWII...

And since the media has fallen asleep...

And since none of the major presidential candidates wants to call for an immediate end to this fiasco...

etc. etc.

...and I am still waiting (after many posts asking the exact SAME question)for anyone or group to concretely tell me what winning/victory the Iraq war means? If you don't have a reason or strategy to win it, if you cannot describle in one or two sentences what it means to win it (John McBush ?) then why are we wasting lives, time and money?

After 2 months still no Sowal takers--very sad....

Could it be that this fiasco in Iraq is just another example of the fact that WAR DOESN'T WORK...It worked in a way during our early history when Americans fought the Brishe, the French, and the original Americans..if you want to call the Trail of Tears a success...It worked when we nuked the Jaqpanese, if you want to call that a victory...it worked when Hitler committed suicide...But we never learn and our greatest failing is to acknowledge that the world changes. We have pictures of Bush tap dancing on the front portico of the White House...and people are dying in by bombs and inch by inch. How many Americans will speak truth to power...not many..How many Americans have been to their nearest VA facility to say thanks. How are willing to fight for Veterans rights and benefits? No, lets just watch the fool dancing ...

I, too, am tired of this war. I do not wish war or conflict on any nation or its people, but sometimes war is inevitable. Throughout the history of mankind there has been war on all corners of the earth for different reasons. And many people either support those wars or call for an abrupt end, just like they are doing today. My heart goes out to those who have loved ones in the midst of it.
It is my desire to see more leaders come to the tables to talk, with open minds, willing hearts filled with compassion and conviction, in making the world into a better place to live. Unfortunately, I?m afraid that would only happen in a dream world.
I believe America is truly blessed by the Almighty. I believe that God has allowed wars, and yes as terrible as it is, men both good and evil men have died in those wars. And what we stand for today will go into the history books of tomorrow.
What will it say of us? What do we want it to say of us? Will it say we were a strong nation at first, but we became weak and eventually became lost in the cause? Perhaps that is the question. What is the Cause; what are we truly fighting for? Are we truly fighting for our freedom and their independence? Will history show us as a confused nation, divided, lost? Or will we be remembered as a nation that has no voice, backbone or course? Will we become known as a nation that tucks it tail and runs when at the least sight of trouble begins brewing, or do we stand strong and proud? The best time for an enemy to attack is to catch the other side sleeping. Let us not be too eager to give up and throw in the towel
I have often found my self arm-chairing the war and the leaders. So easy to do, when I am here living out my daily life, going and coming as I please with my everyday routine plans for the day. Meanwhile, I have a 15 year old son. I do not want to see him be forced to go to war. But if he has to, or if he chooses to, I want him to know I would support him. I would tell him to be of good courage, and when he sees the sights and sounds of the battle coming from over the hill, do not run, but charge forward, for the enemy will surely come for him.
I want the war to come to a conclusion, soon. But, I want our future intact and our freedoms secure. And when that day comes, and we reach over the table to shake their hands in good faith, let their ears still hear the sound of our sword. A chilling reminder: don?t tread on me.
I want to leave our future generation safer if all possible. Let us not fall asleep, as Sir Winston Churchill stated about, whose in charge of the clattering train. We may get a rude awakening one day, when those chilling words, ?too late? ring out.
God forbid, we ever see a day, where you can not log into SOWAL or other message boards and be able to speak our hearts, our thoughts and prayers.

A nation that is divided will not stand. Hang in there Americans, don?t give up the fight.
God Bless America, Our Troops and its Leaders.

Gret post SF. I think you touched on the point that we have to support our troops. My issues lie not with the people who are actually doing the fighting, it's about the people who I feel were not honest with the public about why they were sent there. I'm giving you rep as soon as I'm out of the penalty box
