Posting this here in case it helps any other SoWallers...

So, I'm back to downloading more live music, this time from www.archive.org.

They have XML files for each concert. It looks like some of them have track info. Is there a way I can use this to put the tag info into the tracks, rather than manually editing it?

Thanks again for leading me to this. I've gotten so much good stuff.

I grabbed this from the moe NYE show up there, it's the flac_files.xml
not sure where you're planning on putting the music files, but as you can see, the song name is included. The only hitch may be that sometimes the taper may not know the song name, so that field will be empty, or not there.

<track>02</track>

hope this helps.

John R - thanks for the prompt reply.

I had already found the song titles, etc. in the XML files, much like the one you have. What I was wondering is if there's a program to extract that info and put it into the tags for the songs.

Seems like there should be, otherwise why would the person posting the files go to all that work?

More questions:
-What is the purpose of the "FLAC fingerprint" file?
-How do you use the checksum file to be sure you have a clean download?

The xml file is being generated by an archive script based on the titles entered by the uploader. If you download the artistdate_meta.xml file and place it in the same folder, it should include the song titles in the correct field when dragging it into itunes. What you wont get is the artist name, but that as you know is easily handled.

xml is pretty much only happening at the archive, tapers doesn't use it, nor etree. if you know of any others that do, please let me know. hope this is what you were looking for.

Engrish, pwease.

This all started when John R was posting notices that he (or others) had uploaded recordings of live concerts. For instance, I've downloaded a great Dread Clampitt performance from the 2004 MagnoliaFest.

It's a little bit arcane, but there's a lot of really good music out there you can listen to on your PC or iPod. There's another thread from about 6 months ago where John R explained how to do it all. See this:

Aha. I'll try including it in the folder with the MP3s when I import into iTunes.
