Looking into the possibility of renting the largest house I can find on the beach for a week (May 2008), in order to accommodate visiting family of about 20 people and possibly a wedding ceremony with 50-70 guests.

The house would preferably be on the gulf and have a lot of outdoor space/deck to have the ceremony.

If you have any links to rentals with photos that would meet these criteria I would be very grateful.

Also, any other ideas as to venues anywhere from Okaloosa Island to Grayton Beach along the coast are welcome.

TIA

Lots of weddings on the beach at Seaside. You are hostage to the weather but the surroundings cannot be beat.

Many choose to do a more casual beach wedding. I've also been to these weddings:

An outdoor wedding/reception at Eden Gardens. They have a neat old house, view of water, and trees for backgrounds of photos as well as an outdoor screened & roofed area that would be great for keeping bugs and weather at bay during dinner. There is a small bandstand, but it can be buggy/dimly lit if you are unprepared.

Seaside & Rosemary Beach chapels are very attractive - no idea on their availability.

Wedding on a boat that cruises the bay.

Depending on your budget, there are many great local restaurants that could accomodate a group that size, possibly in a venue with an ocean view.

We just did this on July 3rd at my condo in Seagrove Beach (http://www.vrbo.com/43365) as my nephew got married. We had both my unit, Key Largo, and the unit below me, Five by Five (http://www.vrbo.com/25229) in the small 5-unit Emerald Surf Villas. They are both 4 bedroom gulf front units that occupy an entire floor of a three story building and sleep 10 each. There is an elevator for easy access and the building is built on pilings with a large deck underneath. We had the ceremony down on the beach at sunset and the reception on the deck underneath the building with 70 people attending. We used rental tables & chairs, had a rental sound system, had a chef grill seafood for dinner and used Publix to cater the rest. Turned out great as the rain stopped in the late afternoon and held off the rest of the evening.

I will post pictures when I get them from my son, one of the photographers.
If you are interested in renting my unit, send me an email via VRBO as I will give you a discount versus my management company (Beach Rentals of South Walton) and I can provide info on all the rental/wedding particulars.
