A lot of social problems could be solved if only people who really wanted kids got to have them!

So true, for all parents-to-be...

With the gay parenting issue, it seems to me like just another issue of lawmakers with their heads in the sand... They prefer to envision "family values" through some nostalgic lens of what their idea of a traditional family is, colored by religious and personal filters, instead of looking at REALITY.

In the real world, there is no such thing as a traditional family - even the ones that look *normal* from the outside! What makes them a successful family is the amount of love, respect, time and care invested in one another. In the real world, there are many, many gay folks with an overflowing amount of love, respect, time and care to give to children, and many, many children who desperately need it. IMO, the lawmakers insisting on keeping this law viable should be ashamed.

Too bad many gay couples want to raise kids in the "traditional" sense - they're in a committed long term relationship and want to expand their family to include the next generation.

Another reason (although controversial) for keeping Rowe V. Wade in tact! A lot of sanctimonious people care more about preserving the life of the child right at conception, but have no care or consideration for that child after it is born into whatever bad circumstance it found itself in.

all great points in this thread.

It am not proud of some of our state leaders for this line of thinking. I am sick to my stomach because of the following words from the above news report.
Governor Charlie Crist has said he opposes any change to Florida's ban on gay adoption. He and other Republican lawmakers say a traditional family provides the best environment for children.

A possibly closeted (and thus, possibly self loathing) gay Republican Governor with no children, and "other" Republican lawmakers (most likely all male)are the very LAST folks who could determine which environment is best for children, much less WHAT actually comprises a family unit in 2008! :bang: Political sanctimony at its very worst!

My perfect beach
I wonder if the governor's position would be different if he weren't being considered for vp. Hmmmmm

The bottom line is, children need love and lots of it.

His true colors finally are coming out, but that is about all the "coming out" he'll do....
