Since our SoWal weather watchers have not posted anything, I thought I would make everyone aware of the Leonid Meteor Shower which will begin around 10:45pm (central time) on Saturday night. The beach is a great place to watch the show, but you best bring some cold weather gear and a thermos of hot chocolate. As a reminder for anyone who may be tempted to drive out to the show, the beach is closed to vehicles after 10pm, and the Sheriff's Office will write tickets. ;-) Just ask another SoWaller who recently got a $200 ticket (I think that is what he said).

For more details, here is a story on the shower. See you on the beach!

Hey kids, care to make a gathering out of this? I was just talking to a friend about how cool it would be to lay on the beach and watch a meteor shower. It'd be nice to meet up with some people.

This would be awsome @ Grayton...any thoughts??? I happens every 30 years or so but, supposedly after this year, Jupiter's gravity may will pull it away forever. I heard on npr that this shower was so tremendous in the 1930's, people thought the world was coming to an end...

Grayton sounds good to me. I could probably come up there after work tonight. How does the beach behind Red Bar sound?

It's too bad you can't make it, bsmartypants. The more the merrier, right? :D

I just took my kids here in Alabama out to the country and we saw at least 15 in 45 min. time. Bundled up with blankets laying on the ground and there they were. Some looked like fireworks falling. Such a great experience to share with your kids like that. Not sure how long the showers will last, so we came home. Its 45 degrees here and collllld.
