Prior to the 2006 Watercolor Mtn. Film Festival, BB and I invited a couple down to the beach. We have a habit of providing a tour of all the nice developments along 30-A. (it becomes a subliminal sales pitch). Anyway Sunday morning I go upstairs to find one of our guests with a couple of real estate brochures that he had collected when he went out for a drive at 6AM, He had driven into Panama City, but yet kept coming back to 30-A. Within two weeks this couple put a contract on a new condo (just wish it had been mine).

I am sharing this story with everyone as an example of why the developments, chamber and county needs to continue to produce programs and events that motivate people to come to the beach. Its amazing that people think the beach was destroyed when Katrina hit the gulf coasts! Seaside or St Joe really seems to be doing their part to consistently attract folks to the beach with numerous small events, but I think we need to be thinking bigger. I would love to see a concert by some of our celebrity neighbors like Cheryl Crow at the beach! Years ago I remember seeing the Beach Boy's in Destin. I don't know why we can not have two Mountain Film Festivals a year?

Everyone is sitting around "waiting" for the market to come back. Well let me tell you, it's going to be a long time for that to happen if all the real estate professionals are doing is placing a listing in the multi listings and waiting for a call. The county and newer developments that have the most at stake need to be promoting events that motivate people to visit the coast so that they can be reminded the beach is still here.

On a similar note, my brother and his family stayed at our condo during Thanksgiving. They'd never been down to the beach past September and were amazed at how nice it is in the "off" season. I think we may have a convert in our family! :clap_1:

Excellent idea FFF. In addition, I see occasionally television advertising here on the east coast for certain States. Here in the NE, New Jersey has used Bon Jovi, a New Jersey resident, and created a fantastic marketing program with his song " Who says you can't come home".

I just think more needs to be done than placing a bunch of add's in magazines promoting various developments. We need major events being produced and promoted so that others will discovery the beauty of this very unique piece of the beach.
