The good is the owner is friendly and came to our table twice at dinner. The bad is slow service, waiter said he was bring bread and it came 20 minutes later. Drinks took a long while also and dinner took a little over an hour. We got there around 7:00 and dinner came around 8:15 after we ordered drinks and dinner at the same time. The shrimp scampi came with 6 medium size shrimp at best with a very small portion of pasta for $23. The pasta bolognese was good but came alone, my Caesar was an extra $8. The red snapper fish special ($34) was about 3-4 ounces at the most, both it and the risotto were good but it was so small for the price and no salad. The service was slow and the restaurant was not at all busy. No local discount either? Prices are ridiculous for what you get as well as the long wait. A real disappointment for some locals who live in Gulfplace and would be regulars.

Let the friendly owner know - with a new restaurant and staff there are kinks to wortk out that need feedback to them.

Very interesting as we've had Sunday Brunch and a few lunches and we are so excited about the incredible food experience at Messina's! I am in LOVE with the chicken marsala - the best I've ever had. In fact, this restaurant is serving up french, creole and italian, something we've not had in South Walton until now - straight from Nola.

Dawn is right. Talk to the owner - drew - he's a great guy and would appreciate feedback.

Agree, service was bad and the place was FREEZING when I went. Utterly ridiculous. Food was pretty good, I'll grant them that.

I had the opposite experience - excellent service, but unimpressive food.

No issues with portion size, but I think most restaurant portions are too big.

Also, I think one shouldn't expect a "local's discount", but they should expect a "frequent customer discount". Everyone here claims to be a local.

I've only been for brunch and had a wonderful sandwich. As to slow service it is casual fine dining and they're preparing it when you order it. I personally prefer a leisurely meal, but if I am in a hurry I just let the server know at the beginning. They'll usually help speed things along.
