The first phase of rebuilding Miramar Beach Regional Access will be finished this week.
"Everything worked out very well," Brad Pickel, Director of Beach Management, said.
The first phase started at the end of December and included repairs to the parking lot and the restrooms. Chandler Construction won the bid for the project at $1,439,009.
"It ended up being a little under cost," Pickel said. The restroom facility cost approximately $11,000 to get back up.
"Considering that everything around it was washed out, it held up really well," Pickel said. Hurricane Ivan in September left the restrooms an island in the midst of the beach.
The sand was the most important part of the project, Pickel said. More than 35,000 cubic yards of sand have already been trucked to Miramar.
The work would already be finished but thieves stole $10,000 worth of electronic parts off a curbing machine, owner Eddie Chandler said.
The next phase of the Miramar Beach Regional Access project will be to rebuild the boardwalk and beach access.
"We are finishing up the land work, surveying it, then we will go out for bids for the boardwalk," Pickel said.
"We are hoping to have it open as soon as possible," Pickel said, "prior to Memorial Day."
