My wife and I are planning to visit in mid-May. Have visited the area previously several times, but have usually stayed in the Destin area. We're looking or something quieter and more relaxed. Beachfront is a priority. There are several units available in the Mistral complex that look attractive and they're within our budget. I'm just wondering about the number of stairs down to the beach (looks like a long way to carry an ice chest full of frosties). I would appreciate any feedback on Mistral, the beach directly in front of it, or any suggestions for other beachfront rentals in the area.

Cheers!

The exterior of Mistral was recently renovated and updated, I don't know about the interiors. The area is mostly residential and low-rise condos. Rosemary Beach is about 2 1/2 miles east and Seagrove is about 4 1/2 miles west. Watersound is about 1 1/2 miles west and there is a cafe there that is open to the public, although I haven't tried it. You will most likely have to drive or bike if you want to shop, eat, etc. We live in the area, though closer to Alys Beach and Rosemary and love it. If you're looking for a quiet area, this is it.

There are stairs down to the beach, which is probably about 15-20 feet below. Also, there are some big construction projects going on next door to Mistral and across the street. The one next door looks to be completed on the exterior so there shouldn't be too much noise. The one across the street, however, is not as far along. There is quite a bit of traffic and a few parking problems because of these projects. However, there is a noise ordinance and they are not allowed to work before 7:00 a.m. on the weekdays and 8:00 a.m. on Saturdays. No Sunday work is allowed. Most of us who live here have gotten used to construction noise.

Hope this helps.

I don't know about Mistral, but can recommend Seahaunts----unit 5 C by the sea---on the rental section of this site--is very nice. It's in Santa Rosa Beach, which we just love. It's been completely redone, the property is wonderful, it's quiet and is right on the ocean. Views are great. You share the hot tub and pool with the condo next door and they too, are wonderful and clean. The owners of this unit are extremely nice and willing to please. We stayed there for the winter and really enjoyed it and are looking forward to going back next year as well. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Seacrest is a great area away from the crowds. The beach is back to its former self, and due to the absence of large condo complexes and subdivisions it stays uncrowded. This part of the SoWal is among the highest above the beach, so expect 50 steps or so of stairs. If Mistral is not quite what you are looking for, take a peek at Capistrano http://www.vrbo.com/68653

I stay in a house close to Mistral every year. Love, love, love the area. :clap_1: :clap_1: I do not mind driving to restaurants and the beach is ususally not crowded. It is a bit of a hike to the beach, but worth it unless you have joint issues. My BIL has hip problelms so he does not make it to the beach often. Go for it....if you do not like, try another place next year.

Be sure to share your vacation adventure with the rest of us!!!

My family has stayed at Mistral twice. Love it! This year we stayed at Blue Tide 2 doors down. Loved it also! Lots of steps down to the beach, but the elevation pays off with wonderful views in both directions.
