Sandestin & Red Stick
Last night, we had dinner at the new Mitchell?s Fish Market in Grand Boulevard. We had reservations for 7:30pm ? a good thing since the place was mobbed and the wait was 50 minutes. When we arrived we were immediately taken to our table (which was actually a spacious booth) along the side of the room. The d?cor reminded me of Sullivan?s or J. Alexander ? muted colors & mahogany.

Our waiter introduced himself and told us he was a trainer sent up from the Tampa restaurant to help with the opening. He was knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. Soon after we were seated a loaf of sourdough bread was delivered. Another member of the wait staff took our drink orders and when they arrived I could see mine wasn?t right. I had ordered a bourbon & water but what I received was ice water with a splash of Maker?s Mark! I brought this to the attention of our waiter who quickly fetched a new one that was prepared correctly. The ladies ordered Cosmopolitans which they said were good.

Mitchell?s sports a nice variety of appetizers. I was interested in the four different types of raw oysters, but the price of 4 for $7.50 seemed way too steep. My daughter and I decided on the mussels and it was a good choice. Our plate was filled with 12-15 mussels in a garlic wine sauce. With a salad, this could easily work as an entr?e. Our friends had the lobster bisque. Several of us had the tomato & basil w/blue cheese salad which was excellent. My daughter had the house salad which she liked. We all ordered different entrees: grilled rainbow trout, penne with crab & shrimp, grilled tuna, scallops & shrimp, and the fish market trio. All the seafood entrees were served with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. Everybody was pleased. For dessert we shared a ?chocolate lava cup,? a decadent combination of a brownie, gooey chocolate, and vanilla ice cream.

Overall, we were very satisfied with our dining experience. Food quality was excellent, service was surprisingly good considering they have been open but only a week, and the prices were reasonable. We will go back.
