Georgia
Ranked number one preseason. During the summer, Moreno and Stafford sucked up more glossy newsprint than Brad and Angie. Expectations in Athens had never been higher. Then came the September 27th game against Alabama, Saturday night, ABC, blackout, between the hedges.
It may turn out to be the last blackout between the hedges. Alabama was ahead 93-0 midway through the first quarter. I don't recall a home crowd being so pumped up for a game, and then so deflated, so fast.
November 1st against Florida came a chance at redemption. That ended on the second play of the game as Brandon Spikes pancaked Moreno to the ground and told him nose to nose what he thought about his mother. They should have drawn a chalkline around Knowshon - and the Dawg's season - after that hit.
Season ended on a complete downer, giving up 45 points at home to Georgia Tech.
Hey, at least Richt kept his job.
LSU
Reigning National Champs were ranked number seven pre season. Got absolutely walloped by Florida and Georgia, then closed with embarrassing losses to Ole Miss and Arkansas. Almost lost at home to Troy.
Guess Les Miles is just a .500 season away from getting canned.
Auburn
Tigers were ranked 10th preseason, chock full of returning seniors and excited about their new spread offense. It didn't quite work out. They couldn't score two touchdowns in a game even if they were on the field by themselves.
Bye, bye, Tubbs. Some lucky team is going to get a really good coach.
Tennessee
At this point I guess it's getting kind of obvious which conference was the most overrated. (Hint. It's not the Big 12.)
Hard to believe these guys were ranked 18th preseason. Lost to UCLA. Lost to Wyoming. Lost Fulmer. Nuff said. Think Walter Berry wishes he was playing elsewhere? Can he play quarterback?
