Can anyone recommend a good, local moving company?
We are in kind of a strange position here: most (but not all!) of our stuff is still packed, in storage, from fall of '05. But there is a heck of a lot of it. While our move is only 5 hours away (from Port St Joe to Amelia Island) it is a full household of stuff.
We can't just hire some college kids, I think we need a "real" moving company.
BTW
I've been to that scary Moving Scam messageboard /site, which is full of horror stories but also good advice.

Don't do anything on line!

Get out the phone book and call- ask to have someone come to your house and give you a price that is locked in.

We ended up going with the company that was higher- because their quote was very thorough. The other company just gave a price and was sketchy about it being the "final" price. Oh, and as many boxes and rols of tape as I wanted.

It's too bad that we can't interview the driver and crew beforehand- those are the guys that really matter. We were lucky- we had a father-son'- son in law team and they were great. Packed us in Louisville and moved us in here.

BTW- how is your husband's job going? Are y'all looking forward to the move?

heh
Yes, that's what the Moving Scam site says. Online is good for some stuff, but not this.
They also say go local, which I would certainly like to do. I have one local company that was recommended, but was hoping to find more.
The first time around, when we moved out here, it was all taken care of and paid for. So this is a bit new. As I recall, the packers were good, the movers underwhelmed us, but the driver, FWIW, was a nice, responsible guy.
The job thing is okay.
I am antsy to move; the husband just comes home every 2 weeks.
Of course, now our younger son is settled, enjoying spring break on the beach with his friends, and the last thing he wants to do is move (again!). But he and all his buddies are graduating and they will all be off to college soon enough.

It there some sort of relocation office at Tyndall? Someone there can probably tell you what companies the AF uses, and while they may not be perfect, at least they should be reasonably honest.
