Well, it isn't exactly SoWal - actually it's central Walton, but maybe someone in SoWal can help out the planning dept with their request for reference material. This is from the WZEP email:
Natural Bridge
What do you know about Natural Bridge? WZEP First News has been following Commissioner Kenneth Pidgin?s efforts to acquire the spring and adjacent land. Natural Bridge is located in the extreme north central part of Walton County and is a spring flowing into a pool then under a road, forming a bridge then flowing out to a creek. The spring and natural bridge has been visited by area residents for years and has cooled many folk during the hot summer months. The springs and adjacent land is privately owned. Pridgen is trying to obtain the spring and possibly a larger track of land through an arrangement similar to what the county did with Morrison Springs.
Diane Merkel, a trustee with the Walton County Heritage Museum sends another note out to the History Detectives. This time there is a special request from Lois La Seur, Long-Range Planning Manager for Walton County. The History Detectives are people who help answer questions submitted by members of the Historical Association and visitors to the Museum.
La Seur says Walton County is preparing grant proposals to purchase the Natural Bridge site. She says, in addition to its great environmental value, they are looking to document the history of the site, which she understands was once a stagecoach stop. Le Seur asks if anyone has any references, documents, or other materials?
If you have information on Natural Bridge, contact La Seur at Walton County Planning, 267-1955.
To become a history detective, submit a question or to find out more about the Walton County Heritage Association and the Museum in the restored old depot, go to www.WaltonCountyHeritage.org or simply visit the museum.
