Does anybody know anything about the very unfinished state park at Navarre Beach? It looks like it will be amazing, but also looks like it has not been worked on in awhile, and far from being completed any time soon.

That place was opened just before Ivan (and was very nice!); then it was torn up. Then it reopened (and was less nice); then Dennis tore it up. Then the state gave up and returned it to the county and last I heard, they're still working on getting it fixed up and reopened.

Now it is chain linked fenced off, but it appears somebooy is keeping the roads and some parking areas swept clean of sand. The buildings are boarded up, and it looks really abandoned, but there is a contractor's sign hanging on the fence.

What a shame- this looks like an amazing place- very pristine and HUGE! Of course it may look pristine because the fence keeps the litterbugs out.

Sunkist and I drove over there in April. In all the times I've been by there, never driven over to take a look. Quite a contrast from other areas, but pretty cool, I'd say. It's a shame they can't seem to get that park open.

I did a couple of Abitaman triathlon races out there, and they used the park roads for the run course when the park was open. Nice when it was open, but they didn't really design the park with the understanding that they were working on a barrier island that's like 3 feet above sea level, with all the challenges that come with.
