I want a digital video camera for Christmas. Any recommendations for the mini DVD versus hard drive genres? I think I have a preference, but would like input from people who have actually owned one or the other.

OOPS! I said on another thread that I didn't want anything for Christmas. :rotfl: This would be for my December 22nd birthday.;-)

BR, what price range are you looking at? For Philippa's 18th birthday, we bought her a subcompact digital camera that takes videos (she and her friend Michael did a Monty Python take-off as her first try  ). Consumer Reports rated it the highest in its class. It's a Casio Exilim 7.2 mega pixels zoom. If you want something lightweight and little, this is a great camera, and it can be found for $300 or under.

About 12-18 months ago I replaced a Panasonic VHS-C (compact) video camera and bought a Sony miniDVD one. It burns the video directly onto mini DVD disks and at the end of the day I went that route because I did not want to fool with moving the video off of the camera, a memory disk or a mini tape. It goes directly onto a miniDVD, has good quality, and then you can burn them onto a computers hard drive, onto another full size DVD disk etc.

I love mine. I suggest going to consumer's reports or online to research them to see the user and expert's reviews. They have pros and cons as well online.

Good luck with the search.
