Won't the sign alert people to the businesses? We are a bit different in some respects when it comes to out of sight, out of mind. For example, look at Fire restaurant. They seem to be filled. The key is to provide great service and product, and people will talk, and more will come. That is better than any other marketing plan.

By the way, those other businesses pulled out because they either didn't do their due diligence when it comes to running a business, or they were too blind to see the numbers. I don't care who you are, it is more than difficult to sell enough coffee and sandwiches in a seasonal small town, to pay the note on a million dollars, plus, you have to pay for overhead expenses, labor, and raw goods. Those businesses failed because of poor planning and refusal to do, or accept, the math.

By the way, H20 pulled out because of a bigger problem, which had nothing to do with their location at that particular branch.

:bang:You don't know the words prune and trim either. Ask the businesses at Redfish Village who lost hundres of thousands of dollars what they asked for and nothing was done to help with a little visibility!!!
Yes, I do, but apparently, you haven't read the Walton County Comp Plan and the Walton County Land Use Plan. Clearing bushes wouldn't even help bad business models, and when I say bad, I am not talking about product or service. I am talking about the cash flow, the same reason such a high number of businesses fail, especially restaurant biz.

Visibility from the road has nothing to do with how frequently I spend money at Redfish Village.

It has a lot more to do with what businesses are there and how far I live from it.

Love the Village Boutique, had no use for any other business in there - I don't need a real estate agent, didn't have the money to eat at Searings, rarely eat fried chicken unless we're at the beach, and if I want coffee I don't drive across town to get it - I go to the (closed) PJ's in Watercolor, (closed) Coffee House by Publix, or the Seaside Amavida within walking or biking distance.

It is a 6'x6' (approximate) monument sign like many others in the area. I doubt ayone who has seen it has a problem with it. I didn't notice it the first time I drove by but looked after I saw this thread.

Drive in, walk in, bike in traffic is important on Scenic 30A - especially in the summer. But we have rules in place to try to keep Scenic 30A scenic.

One of the main reasons I chose South Walton for my homes location is beacause of the absence of in your face businesses. I couldn't agree more with smiling Joe,
"The key is to provide great service and product, and people will talk, and more will come. That is better than any other marketing plan".

It is exciting to me to go find a hidden dune lake or a hidden hole in the wall restaraunt with good food and service, it as FUNN as lurking on SoWal. I like the rules in place that help keep South Walton unique. I also agree that starry eyed business can work when the economy is booming but you have to do the math and be able to stand up in the hard times. My 2 cents. :dunno:

Seen it? Thoughts? I caught a brief glimpse in the pre-6:00 AM light today. Not sure what I think yet. I know they are desperate to shunt humanity into the complex, but my first thought was that it was kinda ugly. Someone needs to post a picture.

i think the sign looks very nice. very subtle. i have suggested monument signs repeatedly as a substitute for the illegal cardboard signs on wire legs i keep seeing. clearly, the businesses located in enclosed areas like redfish village need to have some assistance with visibility. i think the sign is tasteful, and i hope more of the resorts follow suit. do think they are so much nicer than those stupid giant blue signs which are still standing on the side roads. not sure why since they were supposed to come down after tourist season in 2008! dave rauschkolb, isn't that true??

I believe the cardboard or vinyl (yard signs) signs, and some larger banners are allowed in certain circumstances - new businesses, temporary events, real estate, etc.

Yes, the "temporary" signs are allowed in some cases, but the crazy thing is that (my understanding is) they are required to be "permanently" erected -- eg -- the banner or sign must be mounted on 4x4 posts. I don't think the metal wire posts would qualify.

Are these signs placed on the county easement?

I see our former County commissioner Mr Pauls has his

"Home For Sale Billboard" in the right of way on the west end of 30A.
