That video was pretty stunning. It reminds me of a video I saw many moons ago as an undergrad in a marketing class called "Killing Us Softly" which was about how marketing portrayed women (similar to the video on this thread), but it was much longer. That video was one of the few things I remembered from my undergrad days (I also remember a blind taste test in which we compared inexpensive fake maple syrup -- Mrs. Butterworth's -- with expensive real maple syrup and most of the class preferred the fake maple syrup when they didn't know which was which). Anyhooo, that video influenced me for the rest of my life (It's probably why I've resisted dying my hair when it started getting salt and pepper -- I still may do it someday, but I'm not in any hurry at all).
After I mentioned "Killing Us Softly" I looked it up on the Internet. Turns out it's one of the most popular educational videos of all times (no wonder it made an impression on me) and Jean Kilbourne who made the film recently made Killing Us Softly 3. I thought this line from her bio was interesting: "She also received a most unusual tribute in 2004 when an all-female punk rock band in Canada named itself Kilbourne in her honor."
It's amazing what a good "teachable moment" can do to students since I remembered it for several decades. I'll be showing that Dove video to my kids this week.
