I think he's pecking for DD's june bugs.

He'd have a buffet here for sure! I love the little peckers though.
Someone on another board here just posted they're hanging their hummer feeders today. They've been spotted in the area.

We have one pecking on the metal flashing around our fireplace. It's like an echo chamber by the time the noise makes it all the way down! If I could see the *&%$# thing I'd throw something at it! As if, I could actually throw that high.

Woodpeckers get really still and quiet if they see you looking at them.

I started to reply to this earlier but was dragged away from the computer by a 2 year old.
I wish I had a bird like that in the yard here! That is one impressive pecker! (sorry,:blush:I had to do that)

I only get the red bellies. They rattle the top of my house, and the plastic on the feeder. I really like to hear them on the telephone poles.

Ya'll I watch birds all the time. I don't know why but I think my Mother must have always pointed them out to me as a child. I find myself doing this with my girls, telling them what all the birds are (the ones I know) and looking in the bird book.
I watched a dove fall into one of my feeders the other day. He ended up with a claw on the feeder and a claw on a twig... spread-eagled for the same stuff that was all over the GROUND. :rotfl: And the way they chase each other around...

I guess I'm easily entertained.

ssb-I love watching birds too. I don't feed them anymore,(except the hummers) since my neighbor left me with two outdoor cats, but I still love watching all their antics and listening to them. We have a hawk that must live in the park behind us, and I can always hear him when he's hunting. He's really loud. We have owls around here too. I am so facinated by birds of prey, but I love my cardinals and songbirds too. They still hang out in the tops of my trees.
