Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is set to gain nonstop flights during Spring Break next year to further accommodate tourism to Panama City Beach.

WEST BAY — Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is set to gain nonstop flights during Spring Break next year to further accommodate tourism to the Beach.

According to a recent press release, United Airlines will add the five new nonstop flights on Saturdays in March. The nonstop service locations will be between ECP and Austin, Chicago, Columbus, Denver and St. Louis.

“We are excited about for United Airlines to add more nonstop service for our passengers this spring,” said ECP Executive Director Parker McClellan. “This new service allows us to welcome our friends from across the nation and likewise, we expect these routes to be popular among our local residents.”

Panama City Beach sees an increase in tourism during the month of March because of Spring Break. And even with Hurricane Michael making landfall just over a year ago, there is still an expectation of increased tourism.

“We still filled up condos and hotels after the storm in the winter because of people being displaced from the hurricane,” said Visit Panama City Beach President Dan Rowe. “Every time flights are added (ECP) it’s wonderful for us and has been since it has been built in 2010.”

The spring break holiday traditionally brings in more tourists around March and now it’ll be easier for more families travel. ECP is expecting to top 1.2 million passengers in the upcoming year. The airport had its busiest year in 2018 and so far, 2019 is shaping up to be another record-breaking year, officials said.

ECP has been on a roll this year with adding nonstop flights.

This year ECP has announced Southwest Airlines’ nonstop Kansas City flights, along with three other nonstop flights — all between ECP and Chicago — on top of its recurring seasonal air service expansion. They include nonstop service by United Airlines on Saturdays and Sundays, and Saturday service by American Airlines.

To help with the growth in passengers, the airport has added two terminal gates and two ramp loading gates.

Passengers can now start booking the new Spring Break flights.
