The local ordinance requiring $.005 of tax on short term accommodation rentals in South Walton County will sunset September 30, 2014. This planned expiration of a portion of tourism development tax results in the total bed tax dropping from the current 4.5% to 4.0%. Bed tax collectors should address their software platforms and/or procedural processing as the proper amount of tax shall be collected from visitors and remitted to Walton County beginning with collections on October 1, 2014.
