Here's a good example of natural beach accretion. A large sandbar builds near shore, creating a tidal lagoon which becomes permanant (as long as there is no heavy weather for awhile). The lagoon fills in with sand and 100 feet of new beach is created.

Thanks for the photo and information. I love the area so much, so it is nice to learn how nature works at the beach. Please keep sharing for those not native to the region.

Thanks - this is one way it works - when there is a lot of sand offshore. We're seeing all kinds of islands, lagoons, sandbars, peninsulas, etc. Winds, waves, and currents are a very efficient way to build (or destroy & rebuild) a beach front. It will be interesting watching the effects of the full moon tides coming up next week.

When I see this happening naturally so effectively, it gives me another reason to feel uneasy about scraping.

If people were not so impatient and expected perfection, nature would take care of most things. The journey as it happens is the best part.

I agree. Just one more reason to keep the fast food, give-me-now people out of our area.

Thanks for the info Kurt. We had one of these so called "lagoons" in Seagrove just down from our condo when we were there! The kids loved snorkeling in it! I say let nature take its course!!
