Opinion: Couch or Recliner in Office

I just moved to a new office that used to be a hotel room. I like it VERY much and I'm inspired to make it not as much like an office. So, I have a desk, bookcases, file cabinets, computer, and regular office stuff in there. I have a small cafe size office table and 2 chairs. And it looks like I could fit a not-too-big couch or nice small recliner in there. Would you get the couch or recliner? I'm bringing a nice fake oriental rug to put in there tomorrow. I meet with people now and then in there (maybe 2-3 times a week), but not too much.

They're tearing down a building and had to move all our offices to a hotel for a while so I want to have some fun with this (for the next 3 years until they move us back).

Opinions and ideas welcome. I may do a Florida beach theme...

We have a small loveseat in our reception area because of lack of room and it looks really nice.

How about one of those massage reclining chairs? If anyone gets a little stressed during the day...voila!!

I wouldn't trust myself with a recliner. They are WAY too comfortable. The temptation for relaxing would be too strong for this lazy mermaid.

I have a massage recliner at home and it's fun. The novelty wore off after a little while though, but it would still be novel in my office! I don't want to encourage more visitors to the office, though. I also have a nice recliner by the fireplace at our home and that's my home office with wireless and laptop.

The risk of napping is exactly what I'd like to encourage. It's nice to be able to get a little snooze in if necessary at the office, even if it's just 10 minutes. I've notice many of the other people are getting couches so I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one taking a teeny nap now and then.

My job is a lot of reading and writing so I figure I need a more comfortable place to read and write at the office. Thus, the couch or recliner question. I need to encourage myself to get through all the reading that I should be doing that has piled up over the years and spoiling myself at work is one way to do it.

Paula, if you are good at cat naps, then you WOULD do better with the recliner. I rarely take naps so when I do fall asleep, it's for a good long time. That's why I gave the answer I did. However, recliners are wonderful for reading--I prefer to have my feet up when reading, and couches aren't quite as useful for that. They're better for conversation; recliners better for reading/relaxing. If you want to discourage lingering visitors, I suppose you could always leave a pile of work papers on the seat. People tend to respect work-in-progress.

So I change my vote to recliner!

I like the idea of the lounge chair, but only because I can see myself sleeping in it while at work.

All good advice. I'm leaning toward the recliner. Hope to get something this weekend. Then it will keep me in the office reading while I watch the snow fall outside the window. As for the casting couch :nono1:
