Well, we came, we hung out, we went home. The rain this past week was murder on our little family. One vacation a year to the beach and I think we witnessed a ray of sun for 2 hours the entire week.

1. The positives- 15 lbs of royal reds coming home with me
2. Wonderful home to be stuck in- I highly recommend Sunrise Beach and especially "Serendipity"
3. Rosemary Beach real estate dreaming-Wow! and I thought Seaside was nice!
4. A good working blender in our beach home.

We'll be back next year.... BYE

Sorry you didn't get much sunshine and beach time on your vacation :sosad: . It was an entire week of rain (which was a nice break from the heat in August) and a bummer for end of season vacationers.

Hope you rested, ate good food, watched movies, shopped and played in the rain!

What are Royal reds?

From the deepest, coldest waters-up to 2400 feet deep. They tend to be large and are frozen on board the ships that stay way out a sea a long time, Royal Reds are a brilliant crimson red, or pink and some think they taste like lobster. A mature Royal Red Shrimp is about 3 years old.(Pleoticus robustus or Hymenopenaeus robustus)
(from http://www.gulf-shores-shrimp-festival.com/shrimp_info_shrimp_recipes.html)

Upside is some people think they have a different flavor than fresh shrimp. Downside is any you buy have most likely been frozen. Try them and decide for yourself.

For my money, the fresh ones in the $3.99 (sometimes $4.99) per pound at Shrimper's on 98 are the best deal. Be advised, though, they are cash only (just for the cheap shrimp--for everything else they'll take cards) and they are head-on shrimp, so buy about 1/3 more than you otherwise would.

Me loves some head on shrimp. They add so much more flavor.

As I've told everyone who asked how last week was

The beach access situation was impossible.

Once on the beach, we had to dodge heavy equipment scraping sand.

On top of that, it rained every day, and twice on some days.

So, all things considered -- our week in South Walton was WONDERFUL!
