For a long time I have felt that too few of us have been involved in the fight against the terrorists. I have also believed that the military could not "win" this war...and that we needed a different approach.
Over the last few months I have explored the efforts of Greg Mortenson--author of Three Cups of Tea. I believe he has an approach that works and that he is helping our military win hearts and minds in Afghanistan. He, and all our troops, need all the help they can get: if you also feel the need to participate, take a look at his work and make a contribution to Educate a Girl. Here is a portion of an email I received from Greg a few days ago:
"Recently, I spoke at an event hosted by Blackboard, a USA software company that develops and licenses education software applications in over 60 countries.

Blackboard made a donation of $10,000 while also challenging their employees, partners, and the business community to support our efforts using a text-to-donate campaign, which they will match up to $ 10,000.
Encouraged by the response, I wanted to extend the opportunity
to our faithful friends here. Your support helps CAI's vision of literacy through peace.

Educate a Girl: Change the World!
So here is how you can help:

1. Educate a Girl, save the world!xt to 50555 and enter "CAI" for the $10 donation.
2. You will then be prompted to confirm the $10 donation to CAI with the word YES.
3. Each donation will be added to your mobile phone bill.

100 percent of the proceeds will go to CAI to support our mission and Blackboard will match your donations up to another $10,000.

Your Donation will make a Difference!

One of my New Year's resolutions was that I use more cash and save ALL my change for a year and donate it to him to build a school.

Increases tips for local wait staff, pisses off the Taliban, and helps educate someone, and eventually change the world.

I have a special glass vase on my bookshelf that I put it in. :D

Think I did a thread about it months ago.
