As Peach Creek Subdivision by DR Horton has grown, fertilizer runoff has caused runaway weed and algae growth, choking the creek. Just a part of the more widespread development that is killing the Choctawhatchee Bay.

There is still more land that DR Horton has clear cut to expand the subdivision, a new 35 home subdivision next to it called Holley Grove, and 50 acres on the other side of the creek that will soon be developed.

So sad to watch our environment get destroyed. When it is gone we will have lost what made our community special.

The surge of development happening now in South Walton is what has killed every community in Florida for the past 100 years. Have we learned nothing? Do we care more for dollars than our home?

OMG! I paddle Peach Creek a couple of times during the year for the last ten years or so and was wondering where all the grass and crud was coming from. I though maybe climate change but runoff makes more sense. I don't even understand why we have lawns any more especially near sensitive waterways. Developers should know better by now. And governments should be requiring new developements to use natural plants and safe ground cover that don't need fertilizing and watering all the time.

Which genius thought it was a good idea to bisect coastal dune lakes with Hwy 30A?

No one was minding the store for a long time in Walton County. Now apparently the wolves own the store. From no one gives a crap to full throttle greed in just a few short years.

The same geniuses who did it in Bay county. However, in Bay county Frint Beach Road was hardened and cut off dune lakes completely. It's one of the reasons the water quality is worse on those beaches. Instead of lakes opening and flushing they slowly leach under the road into the gulf.
