You will probably have to drive north - near the border.

I noticed that one of you has a baby eggplant as your avatar and one of you has a Mercedes. They seem to reflect your differing tastes.

Since you've mentioned this community bias before, can you explain the reasons (if any) for why it exists?
I have been down to seaside and many of the 30A communities and have not been impressed with the beaches or the infrastructure and for that matter the architecture.
I had several opportunities to buy on 30A and in fact decided on a centrally located and quiet community on old Hwy 98. There are many very upscale larger communities in sandestin like Kelly plantation and Regatta Bay that rival anything I saw on 30A.
Waiting for enlightnment.:dunno:
I'm glad you asked dsilvar - I can't explain why the community bias exists - but it is real, and certainly rears it's ugly head from time-to-time.

My comments were tongue-in-cheek satire - aimed at a few who occassionally exhibit elitist attitudes regarding 'their' communities along 30-A (albeit those East of Santa Rosa Beach). Last time I checked, the SoWal county line extends well to the West of 30-A and on occassion, the tone in some threads can be quite negative regarding these areas.

You & I share appreciation for communities to the West. We own on old 98 (as you do), and we also own on 30-A.

Not sure if that was enlightening, but I do enjoy the discourse ;-)

I am glad we have all of those stores not too far away for my off-season trips for goods, but I dread the day they extend all the way to Bay County, connecting the dot in between.
Regarding the topic at hand, I would agree with SJ's comments above

Just as an FYI Kurt, before I left Oregon a year ago, I owned a farm on secluded acreage just outside Portland. I had a greenhouse and raised all my veggies from seed collected from the previous years bounty.
My first heirloom tomato would be ready the first week of june, just in time for the warmer weather and some mouth watering tomato sandwiches.
My wife tired of the cold and rain in Oregon and it got worse after our first visit to South Walton about 3 years ago. So we decided to go for the sea and sun.
I miss my garden but I will garden again..soon. I will concede tho' that I love my cars!!

OK, Tangent time...the eggplant reminds me of Dennis Hopper insulting Christopher Walken in the movie "True Romance", one of my favorite pieces of acting in film. Which reminds me, I need to activate that Netflix gift subscription.

 Well, I thought I would be showing off if I used my Ferrari for my avatar. :rotfl:

dsilvar, you are very correct in your statement that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I refer to "your area," I do not intend it as a bad thing universally. It is just not my cup of tea. ;-) Also, I don't know that you can tell anything about a person by the looks of their avatar. I am as fascinated by the automobile as the eggplant. FYI - Ferrari does make tractors, too.

I want so badly to chime in about how good we have it with most of our basic necessities so close in South Walton, but I'm trying to show restraint.

Hint: I only put 22,000 miles on my car last year. That, my friends, is a huge improvement.

I agree. And I felt that way before Publix or Subway or Starbucks, but I seem to be in the minority.
