Hi All. I am looking into health insurance for our 3 year old Havanese. There is so much information on the internet that my head is spinning!

Does anyone have pet insurance they are happy with or unhappy with?

Any advice will be helpful and welcomed.

Thanks!

We use Banfield in Destin... They have a great Insurance deal that we have enrolled our pets in. Low cost, covers a long list of points in semi-annual compressive exams at no cost, and discounted cost on everything else... The downside is you would have to drive into Destin for the appointments, but they to allow drop offs for the semi annual appointments and they have appointments 7 days a week... Also anywhere in the country that has a Banfield pet hospital honors the plan... I love using local vets, but this program sold us 3 years ago.

The main sticking point with pet insurance is that, in most cases, in reimburses after the fact so if you have a major issue you're still stuck with the up front payment. Also, at three years of age the insurance is going to be more expensive and less cost effective. Even if you get it for a dog as a puppy it's not necessarily cheap.

A great alternative we use is a CareCredit card. It's only accepted at Vets, Dentists, Eye care, and a few other providers. It sits quietly in a drawer at no expense to you until you need it. A lot of times the payment terms are no interest deals.

Take a look at it here...
