East Ridge convenience store owner sued for gas price gouging

Friday, September 2, 2005 --- The Tiptop Food Mart #3 at 6500 Ringgold Road has been sued by the state attorney general's office for price gouging accord to state officials.

Store operator Ramilaben Patel posted regular gas at a gallon on Thursday. NewsChannel 9 sent a reporter to the business and Patel soon took the prices off the big sing in front of the store. It's not believed anyone actually paid the nearly five dollars a gallon price.

The suit was filed Friday afternoon in Hamilton County Chancery Court with Chancellor Howell Peoples presiding. A hearing will likely be held next week.

There needs to be a very appropriate sentence for this crime. I don't mean just a monetary fine, but some real grungy community service with one of those signs he has to wear so everyone knows who he is and what he did! SHAME! SHAME!! SHAME!!!

Better yet, perhaps the owner should be forced to pay double the price for everything he and his immediate family purchases for the next 12 months. I would make a tough judge.

Leave his family out of the punishment...surely you wouldn't want to punish his innocent children!? Horrible enough to have a father like that!

Well, kids often learn from their parents, so maybe this would break their potential bad habits, too. Also, the owner could skirt purchasing anything by having his kids buy everything.
