Private seawalls/geo tubes were illegally installed on a public beach in Seagrove.

The approximate location of these are on the beach between Greenwood Ave and Hwy 395.

Private use of public property is not permitted unless a substantial public benefit can be proven.

The County Board of Commissioners will decide this issue at the BCC meeting 4 PM Tuesday October 10, 2006 at the South Walton Courthouse Annex.

If you can not attend you can express your concerns to the county commissioners listed below.

I'll bet the farm that, at the end of the day, these things will be allowed to stay....the issue will be raised that they'll cause further damage to the the "environment" if they are torn up..blah, blah, blah. Too much $$$$ and "behind the scenes nudge-nudge-wink-wink" went into putting these things in (and keeping these things in) to expect any other outcome.

I fully agree with Shelly on this one, and stated so in a previous post of mine.

In Atlanta I have been fined 30k once by the EPA for disturbing vegetation in a stream buffer and 10k for letting erosion out of a silt fence. I have also seen a building permit revoked and the land deemed unbuildable for similar offenses. I realize the shovel full of silt in the woods is much worse than hundreds of tons of dirt on a beach but hey...

The offending parcels should be bought by the offending contractor and all illegal fill removed. Then the property should be restored in accordance with the law and donated as a public park. Or the offenders could simply go to prison for conversion of property and violating the endangered species act. Where is the talk of legal action here?
