RO mentioned Monticello on my other thread. I lived there for 10 years and actually worked at one of the first houseboat comp. that began the houseboat capital of the world. I was an escort when taking the houseboats to their destinations. We took MANY to Arizona, North Carolina, Florida and Maryland. Fun job, except when traffic was bad. Escorting a 16' wide houseboat on a semi isn't great when people won't move out of the way!
For those that don't know about this monstrous man made lake, it has over 1000 MILES of shoreline and we have thousands of tourists here, mostly from Ohio. Memorial wkend, July 4th and Labor Day are horrendous.

I don't even have a clue how many marinas are on the lake now, nor how many houseboats are out there. Renting a full size houseboat is very popular, as well as renting pontoons and fishing boats. However, the number of personal boats out there have quadripled in the past 20 years! The largest houseboat out there is owned by someone local and is over 20' wide!
Many of the houseboats are more expensive than a gulf front beach house in SoWal !
