The documentary-only film festival – in its second year – will happen April 24-27 in
Historic Downtown Panama City. Last year’s fest was a huge success. Festival planners
and the local creative community are trying to outdo themselves this year.
“Our whole town made Redfish what it is,” said festival director and Redfish co-founder
Kevin Elliott. “It is a film festival, but local creatives added so much that other festivals
don’t have. That is happening again this year.”
In addition to dozens of documentaries across five downtown venues, the Panama City
Center for the Arts will host an exhibit of commemorative posters made by local artists.
Also on the docket are an opening night party called From Bayou to Beyond that
celebrates Panama City’s past, present, and future; a community “urban fantasy street
party” called Storyteller’s Row; a concert at Mosey’s Downtown called Music in the
Movies; a Redfish comedy show by Panama City Comedy; a performance by Thomas
Herndon Band; a “dark masquerade party” called Masque of the Red Death; and a truecrime themed Sunday Brunch.
Redfish also has free educational components, including industry panels and a camera
lab with Girls Inc. of Bay County.
“We don’t just want to show films. We want to inspire the next generation of filmmakers,”
said Redfish co-founder and head programmer, Lex Benedict. “We grew up in Panama
City and had limited artistic opportunities. We want to do our part to make that better for
young people today.”
The success of this event would not be possible without the support of community partners and
sponsors. Special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Destination
Panama City, Be Like Jancy, and the St. Joe Foundation.
