In for Tgiving and the week after and sampled several places.
Bud and Alley's is great for the lunchtime view. We have eaten there so many times and I am tiring of the menu but the view brings me back. Wish they had gumbo. Speaking of view and gumbo, I finally tried D and Ks where I used to go often prior to the renovation. Went for lunch and wish I could say great things (I see Katz's posts on the board and seems like a great guy) I got the cup or gumbo and cup of red beans as I often did in the past. Portions significantly smaller and the gumbo was not up to snuff. Beans were good. But it seemed incongruous with the inside dining to serve in styrofoam bowls with plastic cutlery-maybe just me but seemed odd. My friend got the chicken salad and said it was good but too heavy on the mayo. That being said, it was busy during a quiet time of year and seems to have a strong following, so best of luck to you! I had some of the best gumbo last visit at Hurricane but on repeat visit, it was good but not great and the fried shrimp was awful-heavily breaded-yuk.
Cafe 30A the Saturday after Tgiving was fantastic. The crab cake is $17.50 and worth every penny. The pork chop is huge and tasty. We went to the Two Hands wine dinner and I cannot say the same about the food that night, but the wine was fine!
Second visit to Fire more successful than the last (when we waited an hour for a food on a not busy night). Had a good meal and appreciate the reasonable corkage (as opposed to the OUTRAGEOUS charge Tgiving lunch at the Bait House) I wish Fire luck and hope to visit them again in the spring.
Speaking of Bait House, think I will give that a pass for Tgiving in the future...
Thanks to Great SOuthern for some wonderful free cheese and half price wine
Avoided Seagrove Market as the last time we went, quality had dropped significantly
Good sandwich at Fabrice, and the chocoate cookies are addicting
Already mentioned Onano but deserves a big THUMBS UP here.
Another consistently good lunch at Vintj
Thanks to Shrimpers and Goatfeathers for good shrimp and grouper for some in home dining...
Look forward to returning for more food and fun!
