Bay County-Panama City could be growing in size.
At Tuesday's City Commission meeting members are re-discussing a proposed annexation that could greatly increase the size of the city.
If passed, Panama City would add another 34 square miles, that's nearly 35-hundred acres.
"It's got to meet certain criteria such as being contiguous to the city line, no objections and then they've got to pass the state's regulations and DCA's regulations," says County Commissioner Mike Nelson.
The city began discussing the plan earlier this year, but was shut down by the Department of Community Affairs who strongly objected to it.
They claimed that at the time, annexation projections couldn't support the population growth.
Now some believe it's time to expand, but the county also has to be on board for it to go through.
"This is going to be a huge annexation and as long as it meets all the legal criteria, I don't think the county's going to oppose it that I'm aware of," Nelson went on to say.
The increase in the Panama City's size could help increase revenue from taxes, which city commissioners see as a big plus.
