Mrs. Arkie and I are planning for our "future" and have visions of becoming initially weekend cruisers and eventually capable of longer trips into the caribbean.

We are looking for sailing lessons in the area that can teach us the basics to advance.

Any advice?

Google American Sailing Association and you'll likely find local instructors listed on their website. They do everything from Sailing 101 all the way to advanced navigation and expert bareboating instruction. Fair wins to ye, Matey!

Sailing is life's greatest pastime ... er, maybe No.2 now that I think about it.

I believe there is a asa certified school in Panama City. About 20 years ago Anita Page (woman who sailed the Atlantic by herself in a 24' J Boat) ran a school out of Sailing South in Destin - we took lessons from her - that has long been closed but I believe she is still in the area.

Try asa.com

We have sailed the Caribbean and love it - it is by far our favorite vacation. (although unfortunately - not cheap)

Good Luck!!!
