school calendar change in Atlanta

Thought you guys might want to know....The Fulton County school board has posted our school calendar for next year. Looks like the kids don't have to go back until August 23rd...yippee! This is 12 days later than this years school start. Anyway, Fulton County encompasses a large part of Atlanta and its northern suburbs. Those of you with vacation rental homes might eek out a couple more weeks of summer rentals.

In contrast, Cobb County (also a large chunk of the metro area) adopted a modified balanced calendar which takes two vacation weeks out of summer break and redistributes them in Oct. and Feb. School will start Aug 1st this year.

I'm with you. Spalding County starts Aug. 1. Where has summer gone?

I'm for an after Labor Day start to school too. It's so hot here in August and those poor babies on that hot bus! The good side to an August 1st start is that week in October off. I hear it is simply magnificent in SoWal in October.

cobb county schools are out sept 20-24 and feb 21-25. my wife works for them and i'm looking at the calandar. many of the employees and teachers like this. personally i'd rather be in sowal at sept end and feb than much of the summer

I'm confused. If school is starting later in Fulton County, should we up the August Fulton County rates? And for those counties that start August 1st, should we up their rates in May to make up for the early school dates in August? I mean, those of us who like summer income seem to be squeezed at both ends of summer. Dunno what to do.

beach runner the people who start school in cobb on august 2nd get out of school the same time in june. the reward for starting early in august is one at sept end and one week in feb. but again i'd say cobb county is maybe 2% of all 30 a's business. could see a little pickup in business at sept end but i don't see much business from feb.i don't think many will adjust rates based on a few counties in ga.
