Florida Coastal Conservancy:

'Twas the night before Nesting Season, when all through the beaches
Not a creature was stirring, not even a ghost crab;
The Turtle Patrol backpacks were hung by the door with care,
In hopes that sea turtles soon would be nesting there;
The Turtle Patrol Volunteers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of hatchlings danced in their heads...

Sea Turtle Nesting Season starts tomorrow! (May 1)

Our wild and wonderful sea turtles dig the beach clean, flat, and dark!

Held every Wednesday through the month of August, this event is perfect for anyone who would like to meet our volunteers and ask questions about our local sea turtles! Kids can paint a turtle, pick up an activity book and sea turtle crayons, red pocket flashlights, and take the Jr. Ocean Ranger Pledge to earn a badge! We can’t wait to see you there!

Join South Walton Turtle Watch on Wednesday mornings for “Wild Sea Turtle Wednesday”.

Learn about sea turtles, paint, adopt a hatchling and take the Jr. Ocean Ranger pledge to help keep our beaches clean, dark and flat for nesting sea turtles and baby hatchlings!

The event is free and open to the public!

The South Walton Turtle Watch is a group of volunteers whose purpose is to locate endangered and threatened sea turtle nests and to protect them along the beaches of NW Florida during the crucial nesting and hatching season. Follow South Walton Turtle Watch Facebook.

SWFD:
SEA TURTLE NESTING SEASON BEGINS MAY 1!

It's the start of Sea Turtle Nesting Season in SoWal. Let's work together with South Walton Turtle Watch to keep the beach CLEAN, DARK, and FLAT. In other words, "leave no trace" when visiting the beach.

If you see a stranded, injured, and/or distressed sea turtle, call the South Walton Turtle Watch Hotline at 850-865-4503. Please do not attempt to push a stranded or injured turtle back into the Gulf.

REMEMBER! All species of marine turtles are protected by the Endangered Species Act. It is against the law to touch, harass, interfere, or interact with sea turtles without a permit. Leave the work of handling sea turtles to the professionals.
