Sea Turtle Release Event

GWMI will be hosting a last minute release of "Poink Dexter", the subadult loggerhead sea turtle, across from the Carousel Supermarket at 19440 Front Beach Road, PCB, FL 32413 at 8:30 am CT. PLEASE NOTE: the event page lists the start time at 8:15 CT to encourage attendees to arrive early and get a good spot!
"Poink Dexter" was accidentally hooked on the flipper by a recreational fisherman on the evening of July 6 of this year. Thanks to quick work from the fisherman, the pier management at the M.B. Miller County Pier, and our local conservation partners Panama City Beach Turtle Watch, Poink Dexter was brought safely into rehabilitation just before midnight that night! A full exam the next day showed multiple hook interactions, both internal and external, so it was a good thing this turtle was brought into our rehabilitation program. All together, Poink Dexter had 11 hook or gear interactions!
After some gear removal and time for healing, Poink Dexter has been given medical clearance for release! The public is invited to attend, please note that this event is subject to change based on weather conditions.
