Seagrove Regional Beach Access Now Open!

The heart of Seagrove is about to get a whole lot more accessible to the private beach in Seagrove.
Meh.
Members of the Board of County Commissioners and the Beach Operations and Tourism departments gathered this week to celebrate the grand opening of Seagrove Regional Beach Access, the county’s 10th RBA, located at 3910 E. County Hwy. 30A.
Seagrove RBA includes 23 parking spaces with dedicated spots for standard vehicles, ADA and bicycles, a 1,011-square-foot restroom facility, handicap-accessible dune walkover with rinse showers, and connectivity to the multi-use path. It also contains an expansive exfiltration system to capture stormwater runoff from surrounding neighborhoods.
The total cost of this project was $8.9 million, with $5 million covering the property acquisition. Just over $200,000 covered engineering fees, leaving the remainder for the construction budget.
“We actually finished under budget this year with this project, so you know, we always like to celebrate those,” said Beach Operations Director Josh Ervin.
The project, which provides 100 feet of additional public beach, reached completion nearly nine years after the county originally purchased the property in 2017.
District 5 Commissioner Tony Anderson emphasized that the new access is a direct result of a multiyear team effort between the county and its engineering partners to expand public beach access in the area.
The successful completion of Seagrove RBA was made possible through partnerships with Atkins Realis, GLC Contracting, Berube Leonard LLC and Stokes Architectural.
With the opening of Seagrove RBA, South Walton Fire District lifeguards are now officially operational at the site from a new tower, designated as Tower 21. The tower will be staffed daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 31. It will also have a beach wheelchair available throughout the season as the beach access has an ADA accessible ramp.
This new tower brings the district’s total to 19 staffed towers across 26 miles of coastline, providing enhanced medical response and water supervision to an area historically known for high emergency call volumes, according to SWFD.
Construction of the Seagrove Beach RBA was fully funded through the Tourist Development Tax, also known as bed-tax, which in south Walton County is a 5 percent tax collected on stays of six months or less in a short-term rental such as a hotel, condo, single-family home or campground. As a reminder, Walton County residents do not pay a bed-tax unless they are taking a "staycation" in a local accommodation.
