We are planning a spontaneous trip to SoWal Beaches for the March 16 week (7 nights), and are looking at a few places for availability. Could you answer my questions?

1. Eastern Shores condo/Commodore's Retreat by Eastern Lake: does the water get browner and yuckier there? We like clean water, and the satellite seemed to show brown water in the ocean. Are there preferences between the two units?

2. Bungalows at Seagrove: I think I just discovered that this near the high rise One Seagrove Place, right? Would I see it when I'm on the beach? I'd prefer to stay away from high rises if I can.

Any help would be appreciated.

May I be the first to harass you for saying you're "planning a spontaneous trip?"

:welcome: (I'm harmless, by the way, and I'm sure someone will jump in and help you out any minute. Hope you have a grayt trip!)

I love the stretch of beach by Commodore's Retreat. It's one of my favorites. What you may be seeing is the ouflow. These are beautiful, common and unique to the area. You will find the same emerald green water there as any other beach. Eastern lake is gorgeous.
You won't be disappointed.

I agree with Mango, you may want to factor in the walk from the Bungalows to the beach. They are located behind the Tom Thumb. That would be a much larger turn off to me than One Seagrove Place.

Also keep in mind that there are only 2 highrises on 30A. One Seagrove Place and Beachcrest. Under current building codes a highrise tops out at 50 feet.

:welcome:

P.S. Spot on for "planning a spontaneous trip". You really don't want to show up during this time of year without a reservation.

The brown water is only when the lake outlet is open. It was open last week, but I don't know if it still is. I'll try to look tomorrow and report for you.

Bungalows at Seagrove will use the public access across from Tom Thumb. This is not at One Seagrove, but it's pretty close. So yeah, you can definitely see it on that part of the beach.

One Seagrove is so stinking big you can see it from anywhere on the beach in Seagrove! But it will be a lot farther away if you're down by the Eastern Lake outlet.

Just fyi, "spontaneous" means we are planning it now rather than 6 months ago! We definitely know to make reservations beforehand, and have several different offers. Thanks for the replies so far. The bungalows have a heated pool which proves attractive for our kids, but we like the idea of being on the water.
