Never did I think I would consider renting in Seaside. After 25+ years of SoWal renting, we have decided to try Seaside. I believe it will perfectly fit our needs this trip; included in our group is an eighty year old grandmother and toddler. We wanted something for everyone and hope to not get into the car once it is parked at the house. Anywho, my question is about location within Seaside. We want to be close to the pool, close to the beach, and close to the shopping while also being in a quiet spot. The town map is a bit overwhelming and I am having difficulty getting general information about the resort. East side? West side? Street preference? Oh, and wondering about a possible golf cart rental for my mom? Pretty sure I don't want to be too close to 30A. This is also the first time we have EVER gone to the beach and not been GF, will be interesting.

Thanks for all your help,
Susan

Hi Susan,

Here's a map of Seaside - http://www.seasidefl.com/documents/TownMap_sm.pdf

Check out the pool on the north side at the end of Seaside Avenue. One is for adults and one is for all ages. There is also a playground, tennis, croquet, etc. by the pools. The east end of Forest Street, Seaside Ave, East Ruskin, Tupelo and Savannah Streets are all good choices.

The other pool is on the west side and Natchez or Odessa streets will put you near the pool and the gulf.

Check with the Cottage Rental Agency about help moving grandma around Seaside. All of the walkovers have a considerable amount of stairs to get on and off the beach. The Seaside Pavilion (aka wedding pavilion) behind the Shrimp Shack and the Coleman Pavilion (aka the Obelisk or Obey Pavilion) next to Ono Surf and the Pizza Bar have no stairs but fairly steep sand hills to climb.

You will most likely have to get specific proximity info from the rental agent but keep in mind that Seaside is small and everything is easily in walking distance from everything else in Seaside. Be careful about renting a golf cart. They are not allowed on the bike path. Much like motorcycles, they can be driven on the road if it is legal and licensed for public roads. I don't know who if anyone rents street legal carts but I bet some SoWaller does. Good luck!

Thank you both for your help. I ended up deciding on O Happy Day, the decision was mostly based upon location. As I wrote earlier, I have been visiting the area for years. We started out on Holiday Isle and as the area became more built up we crept further to the east. Sadly, there is really no where left to runaway and hide, certainly not on 30A. No more solitary morning walks on the beach.

You can't stay at a major tourist destination during the busiest part of the season and expect to have the amenities all to yourself.

If you come back and visit during the fall, winter, or spring you can still walk the beaches and rarely see others.

hmmmm............... I never considered the end of April, first of May, last couple weeks of September, and the beginning of October to be "the busiest part of the season". :dunno: Yes, I have been to the area in the summer and a couple of times for spring break (that will never happen again) but the majority of our stays have been April/May and September/October.

True - it is hard to find places in Florida where you can be alone unless you like to hike, boat, camp, etc., and then you can find wonderful places with nature providing your amenities instead of resort employees. Nature is not always convenient but some of the state parks have pretty quiet beaches.
