My husband and I are going through very rough times and need help. We know that counselors can be found in the phone book and by googling but we are very particular about who we are looking for and believe that a referral would serve us well. We aren't looking for a therapist. We don't want someone whose job and approach is to help each of us discover peace and happiness whether we stay together or not. We don't want someone who has effectively served as a last resort for many and who have done fine work preparing folks to accept and cope with inevitable divorce. We are looking for a marriage counselor. We are looking for someone who has a proven track record (references even) helping couples come back from the abyss to continue on together in happy and healthy marriages. We aren't religious but are open to working with someone who is faith-based if they deliver results. But we need them to use a secular approach and keep their church's sales pitch to a minimum.

Please PM me if you know someone who can help. Thank you!

Good for you, Lightscapes, for trying to find a way to make your marriage better. It is my experience that finding a good local marriage counselor is difficult. You may have to ask for some sources in Destin/Ft Walton/Niceville/Panama City.

If both of you are really willing to make it work, I recommend opening the door with some tools like some of the books in the series of Keeping the Love You Find (Harville Hendrix). There are some good practices in those books, which will help you dig through to find who you are, open communication, and share that love which attracted you to your partner in the first place.
