while i've had difficult finding clothes, cosmetics and furniture here- i've been able to compensate, by saving the shopping for out of town trips or shopping online. love the internet! doesn't matter where you are!

but there seem to be a lack of services in the area. can anyone tell me where i can find:

1) a good drycleaner (this means one that understands what folding is and not to press the crease out of my trousers!)
2) a standard barber shop (with regularly employed barbers, not transients)
3) a tailor (someone who can do everything from a quick hem to tailoring a jacket)
4) a shoe repair
5) a medi-spa (obviously with certified expert aestheticians & updated equipment- not a plastic surgeons office)
6) a newstand - (with a variety of newspapers, trades and magazines)
7) a stationery store - (one that does custom printing- and on recognized papers like Crane)
8) an eyebrow aesthetician

if i can manage to find at least 3 of these it will save me from out of town trips!

Dry Cleaners -- there are only two - 1) The French Laundry, located on Hwy 393 and 2) (although I'm not sure they are still in business) On the south end of the stores at WaterColor Crossing on hwy 395. I don't dry clean, so I have no idea on the quality of either.

Standard barber shop -- In the Post Office (and CoCo's) shopping strip center on Hwy 98.

tailor - I have not used their services, but there is a seamstress located on the SE corner of Hwy 393/Wilson St

Shoe Repair - FT Walton Beach -- Check with the French Laundry because I think there is a connection between the two.

medi spa - ? I'm not so sure about the "expert" status, but there are several good ones around here.

Newstand -- selection is slim. Try Sundog Books/Central Sq Records in Seaside. Magazines are upstairs

Custom Stationery Store -- No Regrets, in downtown Panama City -- contact Barbara - 850-747-0227

eyebrow plucker -- there are several around here

thanks for the great info :)
i wish i didn't have to drive quite so far to find this stuff - hate to be a gas guzzler! doesn't quite justify getting the heel redone on a shoe. you know? so for that stuff i'll wait for my monthly out of town excursion. just trying hard to support local business!!!

as for medispa expert status a local woman was just featured on good morning america last week after being butchered by an unlicensed laser aesthetician here. they also didn't have a doctor on call. eeek! when it's bad enough to go national, i won't be the brave person to test it out!!

look forward to trying out the dry cleaner and laundry you suggested.
p.s. the barber shop you recommended had two great barbers both of whom have left. so we're seeking someplace with more permanent employees.

THANKS for taking the time to give me the benefit of your wisdom :D

Hooch and Holly's in Seaside has stationery. They have moved to a much larger space, between Fusion and Caf? Rendezvous.

My husband goes to Sunny's Barbershop. Kids haircuts are 10.00 at Solace on Wednesdays.

Who was on GMA?

I have had terrific success the last couple of years ordering stationery online. While I do like to support local businesses, one could go broke paying local prices all the time. Just a thought. ;-)
