My fiancé and I are looking to honeymoon on one of the South Walton beaches for 5 nights during the middle of May. We are in our mid 20s and while we don't want to stay in a party town, we would like to stay somewhere that we might be able to have a late night dinner and drink. I was initially very interested in renting a small house from Rosemary Beach Cottage Rentals due to the charming look of the houses and town. We definitely want to rent a small house that has a gulf view with access to a pool. However I would like some input from people who know the area as to which town would be the best for us. We will most likely be spending the majority of the time at the beach in a chair with a nice strong drink. We would also like to do some sightseeing, fishing (charter), possibly go snorkeling, and surfing if possible. I understand that all the towns are very close together but I would greatly appreciate any input as to which beach would be the best honeymoon location. Thank you!

I was just married in Grayton Beach in November. I am a long time local and Grayton is my favorite beach by far. It's very natural and May is a great time, not too busy. Rivard Realty has 38 houses in Grayton. The Red Bar is right there to make you a stiff drink and Grayton is a huge roomy beach (where all the locals go). Visit SoWal.com STAY page for all rentals companies. I also like Dune Allen which has Stinky's Fish Camp (perfect for late night dinner and drinks) or Blue Mountain Beach with La Playa and Fire. Rosemary Beach is very pretty too. Congratulations and let me know if you have any more questions.

I think the most romantic place is Rosemary Beach. Just cuz of the architecture and ambiance. Grayton Beach is earthy, but not what I would call romantic. For pure, for lack of a better word, exotic, perhaps Morrocan, otherworldly atmosphere, there is always Alys Beach. The Caliza Pool is a destination in itself. For a secluded lakefront getaway, when you just want to lose the wedding party, I recommend "Of Days Gone By", a rental that is featured on VRBO#36616.

Earthy can be very romantic. Really depends on your personality. Rosemary Beach is nice. Grayton Beach is nice. Everything between Inlet Beach and Dune Allen is nice. Personally I prefer Seagrove or Grayton to the more manicured communities. If it's for your honeymoon, if you can afford it, I'd look for a small place on the beach. If not beach front, then a few houses/condos back. If you're looking for a place to drink and walk home rather than drive you might consider Seaside. Seagrove's a bit more spread out than the others so for that I'd look at areas around specific restaurants like the V or Whiskey Bravo or one of the other many restaurants (Cafe 30A is a favorite).
