The Friends of the Coastal Branch Library are proud to accept a grant from April Wilkes with the St. Joe
Community Foundation to help create permanent, user friendly video presentations of the social
history, cultural arts and ecology/natural history of our area. Presenters will be recognized local experts
.
Videos will be made available via YouTube and accessible to the general public, school programs, and
public programming at the Library. There will also be a dedicated viewing station at the Library with
printed indices for expanded study for students and researchers. The videos will be permanent
documents in the Library’s archival collections!

Some of the subjects we will feature highlight local oral histories and sites such as:
U-boats in the Gulf: This video will highlight the U.S. Military actions during WWII to protect the Gulf
Coast. Narrated and dramatically presented by local historian Chick Huettel, the video is based on his
published research regarding the former military installation on our beach now known as Coffeen
Preserve and the patrol at Grayton Beach. Videographer: Paul Vizard, 30A Media.

Santa Rosa Plantation: The Vanishing Town: This town on Choctawhatchee Bay during the 19 th and
early 20 th centuries was a thriving agricultural, fishing and lumbering community, famed for lush citrus
orchards. What is the mystery of its disappearance? Photos, maps and personal accounts take you back
to our beginnings! Narrator: Chick Huettel with videographer Paul Vizard, 30A Media.

Muscogee Indian Museum and History: Explore the history of the Muscogee Indians in Bruce, Florida as
depicted by a narrated tour of the newly opened museum and gift shop. Exhibits include the original
school house, artifacts, pottery and shell jewelry as well as history of the tribe and their Muscogee
rituals.

Future Programs include: An exciting History of the Law Enforcement in Walton County beginning in the
mid 1800’s, History of the Rise of the Coastal Arts Community with its origins in Grayton Beach, and
nature presentations: Pitcher Plants and other Rare Bog Plants in our area and a Bird Watching
presentation of indigenous and migratory species by a local “birder”.

The motto of the Friends of the Coastal Branch Library is to strengthen the Library in service to Our
Community. We are a 501 (C)(3) and through the sale of your donated gently used books and our
annual book sales along with Friends of the Coastal Branch Library Memberships, we fund meaningful
literacy and entertaining programs for the enjoyment and education of Walton County residents and
visitors.

You will find programs and events for all ages at the Library: Children’s programs such as animal shows,
dance parties and reading and writing challenges. Teen programs stimulate creativity with programs like

“Escape Room” and weekly Chess class. We offer many Adult programs including speakers and authors,
Book Club, Art, Stitchers, and adult game day as well as classes on Mediation, Tai Chi, Yoga, Line Dancing
and many more.

We are honored to be partnered with the Cultural Arts Alliance for ”Art in Public Places”. Every month
local artists share their visions with us. We invite you to come and enjoy their exhibits. Purchases can
be made from the artists themselves.

Please consider becoming a member of the Friends of the Coastal Branch Library. For $20 a year you
can contribute in a meaningful way to the joy of literacy in Walton County. “Be a Friend – Ask a Friend”.
