I have a family of squirrels who have decided to take up residence in the attic in my garage/workshop. They have gotten in by removing a piece of soffit/siding from the corner of the building. Any advice on how to get them out? I'm afraid if I replace the siding I will trap them, since the only other way in is a double door on the front.:dunno:

When i worked at the Sun in the old office, we had all sorts of critters that would get in the ceiling. We used a guy, I think he was called critter-getter. Maybe he's in the phone book? :dunno: I don't keep the phone books. Look under pest control. Maybe animal control could point you in the right direction or the wildlife rehabs.. Good Luck!

If you have a decent handyman to repair/plug the entry, he should be able to make sure they are out. Otherwise you will need someone with a small animal trap to relocate them first. Do not use a shotgun which tends to make holes in your roof.

If they have babies then you might just want to feed them and charge them rent.

I had the same problem in my Paxton house and I called a pest control company that looked at the problem. His advice was poisen, but I didn't want a dead critter in my walls to rot, so he suggested moth balls. It worked immediately, then they came back, I gave them another moth ball dose and they have not been back. The drawback is the mothball smell. Much better than dead critter smell. I think.

I won't do poison either. Thanks for the moth ball tip. If they have babies, they may get a reprieve until spring.

i have much experience with squirrels in my attic. you can buy a hava heart trap at lowes or home depot. you bait it with peanut butter and put it in the attic. you can do one of 2 ways. you can either close them in and put the trap or leave the trap in there with the hole still open. either way you must eliminate the holes the critters get in thru or they will come back yearly to have babies as the scent is still there. they drove me nuts for months as i tried to shoot them with a pellet gun and they were so smart.your handy man must go around the soffit are of your house(were the roof line meets the gutter area) and close it up all the way around with a tin type metal that bends easy. a squirrel has curved teeth and needs an existing opening to chew at.so you either buy the hava heart trap for $50 or so are negotiate $100 with a critter company. good luck

I am having this problem with my grandmother's house. I borrowed two traps from Bobby Beasley but so far have not been able to catch them. My plan is to catch and release them at the farm. If you want to borrow a trap, let me know, and I will get with Bobby, I am sure he will not mind. And I can take any you catch and release.
